Defence chiefs to keep British troops in Germany to combat danger posed by Russia
Defence chiefs are drawing up plans to retain bases, and our 4,000-strong military presence, on the Rhine due to close within the next two years.
They believe it is vital we maintain a quick access to Eastern Europe.
An MoD source said: “With the increasing danger posed by Russia, we have been looking at how we position more of our equipment and people closer to the potential flashpoints.
“That means increasing our military presence in Germany, as well as Poland and Estonia.”
Theresa May yesterday insisted the UK will continue to be a “leading military power” despite pressure from MPs to increase defence spending.
