Defenceless woman, 85, in wheelchair savagely attacked with hammer in own home

These are the horrific injuries sustained by a defenceless elderly woman after she was attacked with a hammer in her own home.

Wheelchair-bound Jenny Powell was left covered in blood after being struck in the head during the terrifying attack on Friday evening.

The 85-year-old was robbed by a gang of up to four masked intruders who broke into her home in the Mulhuddart area of Dublin at around 8.30pm.

A friend told Dublin Live that the yobs hit helpless Jenny with a hammer before stealing her money.

Jenny is well known in the Blanchardstown area among locals and has dedicated her life to helping animals.

Originally from the UK, the mother of one has been living in Ireland since her late 40s.

She lives by herself in a caravan and spends most of her time looking after animals.

A local told Dublin Live: "I’ve never seen Jenny walk or talk to anyone else unless it’s to do with her animals, she made sure she got them all better food than herself.

"Many people would know her and when you do talk to her all she talks about are her dogs, horses, goats, any animal she has.

"She didn’t mind anyone, I don’t know what else to say but I hope she’s ok and God help her, they should be ashamed of themselves."

Gardai have confirmed they are investigating the incident but no arrests have been made.

A spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged aggravated burglary which occurred on the Powerstown Rd, Mulhuddart, D15 on the 16th November 2018 at approximately 8.30pm.

"The elderly female was allegedly threatened by masked men who entered her premises. A small some of cash was taken and investigations are ongoing."
