FDNY Coney Island captain tests positive for coronavirus

A New York City fire captain has tested positive for the coronavirus, sources said Saturday.

The captain is assigned to Batallion 43 on West 8th Street in Coney Island, where his firehouse is being decontaminated.

In addition, 30 people who worked with him will be quarantined, according to a source.

“We are not happy about it. But we have to go on what the medical professionals are telling us,” the insider said.

“This is a very serious situation that needs to be monitored closely while all firefighters and fire officers continue their duties protecting the citizens of New York,” Uniformed Fire Officers Association President Jake Lemonda said.

The FDNY told the Post on Friday that it had only one confirmed case, an EMS worker, and 38 members were in quarantine.

It’s unclear if the 30 who are quarantined after working with the infected captain are among that total.
