Chinese New Year celebrates the arrival of a new Lunar Year with 2020 marking the start of the Year of the Rat.

The Year of the Rat begins on 25 January, taking over from the Year of the Pig.

For anyone born during the Year of the Rat this is bad news. Chinese New Year superstitions say anyone who meets their birth sign is in for an unlucky year and you should take steps to avoid any misfortune coming your way.

Sickness, money problems or relationship troubles are more likely to come your way during the year of your birth animal, according to tradition.

Year of the Rat

Those born in the Year of the Rat – which includes anyone born in 2020 – get along well with others and are popular in social situations. They are instinctive and intelligent but can also be stubborn and sometimes find it difficult to make decisions.

Gold, blue and green are their lucky colours while their lucky flower is the lily.

Year of the Pig

Good tempered, honest and gentle. That's the description of people born in the Year of the Pig. They'll also be very loyal, but sometimes be a little naive.

Their lucky colour is yellow while the lily is also their lucky flower.

Year of the Dog
