AS the coronavirus crisis deepens, the Government has implemented strict measures for the public to follow.
In a speech given by PM Boris Johnson this week, along with a number of other measures put in place, Brits were told to work from home.
The reason for doing this is in the hope that, by keeping employees further apart from each other, it will reduce the chance of covid-19 spreading within a group, as well as decreasing the opportunity for the virus to be caught during a commute or in communal office spaces.
For many, this will be the first time that they have had to do so, and will be wondering about the best ways to be efficient and productive.
Working from home may sound like a dream for most of us, but there are challenges that you have to be prepare for. Let's take a look at the best ways to deal with these issues and how you should get through your day while working from home.
Staying in your pyjamas and slippers all day may be tempting, but getting washed and dressed won't just feel good, it will put you in the best frame of mind to take on the day you have ahead.
Keep your routine
It's important to stick to your usual working hours when working from home. You will be expected to start your day at the same time as you would normally arrive in your office or workplace, and finish at the same time.
Although creating a solid routine when working from home is essential, it is important that the process doesn't become tedious. To stay on top of things you should take regular screen breaks – get up and stretch those muscles to avoid getting aches and pains. Research has shown that short breaks throughout the day are more beneficial than less frequent, longer breaks.
If you're a sociable person by nature and miss the daily hustle and bustle of the office, being at home away from your pals can get you down. But being away from the office doesn't mean you have to skip your daily interactions with your friends. Pick up the phone and have a chat with your colleagues throughout the day, or Skype instead of sending an email when working on a joint project.
Don't overwork yourself
When working from home, it may be difficult to separate work time from your own time and merge them as one.
Whatever system you and your team communicate on, be sure to turn it off once your hours are complete. Keeping it on outside these hours can wear you down.
Remember to eat
Without eating properly throughout the day, your energy levels will decrease and you'll end up feeling sluggish and unproductive. When at work, we have set times to eat that won't be in place at home. Set aside enough time through your working day to make sure you're not trying to race through the hours on an empty stomach.
Working at home doesn't mean you are alone, and there are many ways to keep in contact with your colleagues and team if you ever get stuck or need help getting through tasks. Many Tech companies have created apps or software so you can get the assistance you need throughout the day no matter where you are.
