Huckabee Sanders: Trump could find another way to fund border wall

WASHINGTON – White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed Sunday that President Trump could go around Congress and use another source of funding to get his border wall.

“We’re looking and exploring every option available that the president has,” Huckabee Sanders said.

She sat down with “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace who questioned her about Trump’s threat to declare a national emergency to secure military funding to build the wall.

“How serious is he? Is he really prepared to go off on his own and use money that was authorized for military construction and build a wall instead?” Wallace wanted to know.
Huckabee Sanders answered in the affirmative.

“The president’s prepared to do what it takes to protect our borders, to protect the people of this country, he knows that the No. 1 job he has as president and commander-in-chief is to protect its citizens,” Huckabee Sanders said.

“And if he doesn’t take that seriously, whether it’s at our southern border or whether it’s from terrorists coming from whatever way they come, or any other place that they can try to do harm to Americans, then he is not going to be the president that he knows himself to be, and he has shown himself to be over the last two years.”

Wallace then asked if Trump thought he had the authority to build a wall using funds appropriated for military construction – and without the approval of Congress.

Huckabee Sanders replied that they were looking at every option.

The partial government shutdown is now in its third week after the White House and Congress deadlocked over funding Trump’s border wall.
