Stephen Breyer has been a justice on the Supreme Court since 1994 when Bill Clinton appointed him.

Breyer is a registered Democrat, and is one of the three remaining liberal justices.
He is retiring after serving nearly 30 years on the highest US court.
Breyer replaced retiring justice Harry Blackmun, and is now on the other side of that experience.
Breyer attended the following schools to prepare on becoming a lawyer: Harvard Law School (1964), Magdalen College (1961), Stanford University (1959), and Lowell High School (1955).

When will Stephen Breyer retire from the Supreme Court?
Although the justice informed President Biden on his retirement plans in mid-January of 2022 his exact retirement date has not been determined.
Biden will need time to review Breyer's potential replacements to be his replacement.
At 83, Breyer is the court's oldest member.
Prior to Breyer, former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the oldest member, she died at 87-years-old in 2020.
Democrats currently hold both the White House and the Senate — a position that could change after the midterm elections in November.
Some liberal activists have been urging Breyer to retire so that Biden could have the opportunity to appoint a justice in his place.
Is Stephen Breyer married?
The 83-year-old has been married to Joanna Breyer since September 4, 1967.
Joanna is an author and is known as a member of the British aristocracy, according to Business Insider.
She has a Ph.D. in psychology, Joanna also worked as a pediatric psychologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which is known as a comprehensive cancer treatment and research institution in Boston.
During their over 50-year-long marriage, the couple has welcomed three children together including Chloe, 53, Nell, 51, and Michael, 48.
