M4 traffic delays as motorists warned to find another route after crash sparks huge tailbacks

The incident, between junction 18 and 19 on the eastbound carriageway, involved a lorry, authorities have said.

Avon and Somerset police said on social media: "Please expect long delays and find alternative route if able."

Traffic service INRIX said in an update on the incident: "Two lanes closed, long delays and queueing traffic due to accident, a lorry involved on M4 in both directions between J18 A46 (Bath / Tormarton) and J19 / M32 Interchange (Bristol).

"Travel time is 1 hour westbound and eastbound is 15 minutes.

"The accident has occurred on the westbound side but the lorry is lying across the central reservation causing lanes two and three (of three) to be closed in both directions."

Delays could continue until 9am, Highways England said.
