Madeleine McCann suspect Christian B ‘at breaking point’ and trashing cell as cops ‘turn screw’ on murder probe

GERMAN cops believe Madeleine McCann suspect Christian B is “at breaking point” and is trashing his cell as detectives plan to turn the screw on their investigation.

The convicted paedophile and rapist was yesterday pictured shackled after having two ribs broken in an alleged jail-attack at the hands of prison guards in Germany.

The Sun Online can reveal the altercation, which came after the 43-year-old refused to put on restraints, is the latest in a string of incidents involving Christian B in recent weeks.

“He has become a very difficult prisoner of late,” a source close to the case said.

“There have been occasions where he has made a racket in his cell and, generally, he has just been very disruptive when guards have tried to manage him.

"He won't do what he's told or follow orders. And his cell is often like a pigsty – which is his way of trying to rebel against the system and make a point.

Investigators believe this change in behaviour is potentially significant.

Our source added: “They remain convinced he is linked to Maddie’s disappearance and they know Christian B is aware they are not going to stop searching for clues.

"The officers have got into his head and he’s cracking up and is close to breaking point.

“Detectives are therefore determined to try and use this moment to the best of their advantages by turning the screw on their investigation.”

Reports last night claimed Christian B’s lawyers in Germany have filed a criminal complaint for alleged assault.

The incident is said to have happened on Monday after Christian B was driven 240 miles from jail in Kiel to Braunschweig for a parole hearing.

A source at the court said the pedophile had "thrown a tantrum'' in his cell, smearing it with yoghurt and blocking the toilet with loo roll, because guards were filming him.

They added: "When he refused to put the shackles on there was a more violent tussle and he hurt himself.''

His lawyer, Friedrich Fulscher, said: "The guards were filming my client via a TV monitor.

"I asked them to stop and to delete the footage. They refused and an argument started.

"This carried on and they attacked my client with a baton after he refused to put the prison shackles on. He suffered serious injuries.

"I had to get a judge involved to ensure the footage was deleted. Yes, he did dirty his cell but he was understandably angry at being filmed.''

In a statement, the court said the German was hurt "when putting on ankle cuffs".

Christian B, pitctured in an anti-Covid mask, was taken to hospital by ambulance and treated for about an hour before being returned to court.

He is serving 21 months for drugs offences. The court will rule on his parole bid later this month.

Christian B was jailed for seven years in December for raping an American woman, 72, in 2005 at Praia da Luz on Portugal's Algarve coast but that has gone to an appeal.

Madeleine was three when she vanished from a flat in the village in May 2007. She has not been seen since.

Prosecutors said in June they had "concrete evidence" she was dead and have named Christian B as the main suspect.

There have been no major developments since, leaving parents Kate and Gerry still in the dark.

The Sun Online previously revealed Madeleine cops are now probing two Russian pals of Christian B as they believe they my have information about the abduction.
