Manhunt launched for thugs who battered Manchester cops in Mad Friday attack

Greater Manchester Police have released images of three men wanted in relation to a vicious attack on two officers in the early hours of Saturday morning.

At about 2:35am, when Mad Friday celebrations were still in full swing around Britain , a male and female officer were making their way to an incident in Middleton when they saw a large group of men fighting near a pub on Long Street.

They stopped to intervene and were assaulted by members of the group.

The male officer was punched in the head, which knocked him unconscious. The female officer was punched, dragged to the ground and then stamped on. The offenders then fled the scene.

Both officers were taken to hospital but have been discharged and are recovering at home.

It's since been discovered that a number of the men involved in the fight had just been thrown out of Infinity nightclub on Long Street.

Three stills of CCTV footage of men involved in the fight have now been released.

Detective Inspector Karl Ward, from GMP's Rochdale district, said: "We have been continuing our enquiries throughout the day and we are now releasing CCTV images of three men we wish to speak to in connection with this shocking incident.

"If you think that you might recognise the men pictured in the images then I would encourage you to please contact us as a matter of urgency.

"We are also keen to speak with anyone who has any additional information that they believe can assist us with our investigation."
