An MMA fighter found a lasting way to propose to his girlfriend when he had the big question tattooed onto his knee with two boxes marked ‘yes’ and ‘no’ – and then returned to the shop to have a check mark on the ‘yes’ box after she accepted.

Vince Murdock, 28, knew he had met the one soon after meeting girlfriend Kira Feightner, 25, in March 2017 and began to think of unique ways he could ask her to marry him.

Murdock, a professional MMA fighter, had the idea to have the words ‘will you marry me?’ etched onto his left knee while sitting in a tattoo artist’s chair in May 2018.

The athlete, from Antelope, California, told DailyMail.com how he managed to conceal his tattoo beneath kinesio tape for four months and dodged Feightner’s questions by blaming a knee injury for the cover-up.

After a two-month stint fighting in Australia, Murdock asked Feightner, an office manager, to accompany him on a hike in El Dorado, California, last September with some friends.

The fighter found a picturesque spot and asked Feightner to finally rip off the adhesive tape before he dropped onto one knee.

Murdock said: ‘I knew right at the beginning that Kira was the one. I knew she deserved a really special proposal.

‘For me I could do it anywhere but I knew it was important to her that it was memorable and special.

‘I was wracking my brain trying to come up with something great and I was in the chair getting another tattoo when I thought of it.

‘I thought it would be cool to get a tattoo that said ‘will you marry me’ with a box to check ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.

‘I was thinking about where I would ask her that would be meaningful. Dinner didn’t seem appropriate.

‘We both love the outdoors and hiking. My friend mentioned this spot where there’s a waterfall and just crazy cool scenery. It felt like the right spot.

‘I was incredibly nervous. We were hiking for about a half an hour and I was looking for the perfect spot. I was building up the courage to ask her and then I would chicken out.’

‘Eventually I just told Kira that the spot we were at was perfect for the picture. I had a really great speech prepared but I forgot everything.

‘I told her to rip the tape off my knee and she didn’t even hear me. I had to repeat myself. Eventually I screamed ”Rip off the tape!” It was very manly.

‘When she ripped it off, I don’t even think she saw the tattoo.

‘I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me and thankfully she said yes.’

Feightner added: ‘His proposal blew me away. He loves tattoos so this proposal really falls into place for him. It was so memorable.

‘I was honestly so surprised and excited.’

Murdock said he fretted when Feightner would ask questions about his bandage cover-up and ultimately foil his plan.

She explained: ‘I didn’t know he had gotten a tattoo. He had his leg bandaged up but he kept telling me it was for an injury.

‘I was curious and I asked a bunch of times but he told me it was wrapped for sore muscles.’

Murdock said: ‘Every so often she asked me: ”Are you going to wear that forever?”

‘She would poke at it sometimes and I would get nervous but it’s super strong tape that adheres to the skin for seven days.

‘I was also away in Australia for two months so as much as I missed her I didn’t have to worry about it there.’

The couple visited Murdock’s tattoo artist two weeks after the proposal to place a tick mark in the ‘yes’ box.

Murdock said he can’t wait to wed Feightner in summer 2020 but says there won’t be another tattoo in store.

Murdock said: ‘I love everything about Kira. I love her energy. She’s incredibly upbeat and positive. She never speaks ill of anyone and she’s just wonderful.

‘I feel like I have one first place at the county fair. She’s a genuine person that you always want to see smile. I can’t wait to marry her.’

Feightner added: ‘I will treasure the video forever. The week after the proposal I watched it so many times and I cried.

‘The fact that he will have the tattoo forever is so special.’
