A young model has been jailed for three years in Belarus for possessing a gram of cannabis after she was stopped because officials spotted her marijuana leaf T-shirt. 

Marya Khrestina, 26, was charged with consumption and smuggling of drugs after 1.14 grams of cannabis was found in her hand luggage aboard a flight to Poland.

Authorities became suspicious of the Russian model because she was wearing a number of items that depicted a marijuana leaf.

After carrying out tests, doctors found cannabis traces in her blood and urine.

She was sentenced to three years in jail in a court in Brest, a city in southwestern Belarus that lies along the border with Poland.

There is a chance Khrestina and her lawyers will appeal the harsh sentence, according to reports.

The model has more than 160,000 followers on Instagram and regularly posts saucy snaps of herself.

She was sentenced to three years in jail in a court in Brest, a city in southwestern Belarus that lies along the border with Poland

But some of her followers blasted her after her conviction.  

‘It is important that people use their brains sometimes, it is the most important part of our bodies!’ one said.

‘Silicone lips and thousands of social media followers are far less important.’ 

Another commented: ‘Looks like she will have some fun in prison. 

‘After serving her sentence she can come back to social media and brag that she spent time behind bars!’
