As the theme tune to Pink Panther plays over the clip, Hunter runs off with the dog biscuits.

Captioning the video: ‘If she won’t get me a treat then I’ll get them myself…’, the footage has received more than 850,000 views and 55,000 likes on TikTok.

Nicola has posted several videos of Hunter misbehaving to the channel including him removing wallpaper and barking at Channing Tatum’s new film Dog.

‘That was his second time doing it,’ she said. ‘The treats have since had to be moved to a higher cabinet that he can’t reach.’

Nicola added: ‘He steals everything from the counter tops! From the second he realised he could reach – towels, food, anything he can get his paws on but the treat press was the first time he managed to get something that hadn’t been left out.’

Commenting on the TikTok, one user said: ‘They are so intelligent. Mine opens the window and doors to go out. We have to lock everything when we go out.’

Another added: ‘You are going to get through a lot of cupboard handles.’ A third commented: ‘Smart pup.’

One asked: ‘Why are they put in a bottom cupboard?’ with Nicola responding, ‘We soon learnt our lesson on that one.’

And Hunter isn’t the only smart German Shepherd.
