A mother-of-four has been banned from the school gates by her children, after a fake tan disaster turned her orange for three days and led to friends calling her ‘Worzel Gummidge’.

The disaster happened after Janice Evans of Nelson, Lancashire, slapped on the contents of a £2.99 bottle of St Moriz Darker Than Dark lotion.

Within minutes her skin had turned a very dark shade of orangey brown, which despite three showers and large amounts of baby oil, failed to fade and left her looking the same three days later.

‘All my mates have been taking the mick. They said I looked like Worzel Gummidge, especially with the hair,’ Janice Evans said

The 38-year-old single mum posted photos of the outcome on Facebook.

‘I went for a bottle one shade darker than I usually buy, thinking it would give me a really nice tan but after just a couple of minutes it was really dark. I thought that was it, but it just got darker,’ Ms Evans said.

Her four children have told their mum to steer clear of the school gates until the colour wears off.

Ms Evans said she now intends to stick to a lighter shade.
