Orgasms work as well as drugs for curing migraines, says brain expert
AN ORGASM works just as well as drugs for curing a migraine, says a brain expert.
The bed-gripping new research means having a headache is no longer an excuse for avoiding sex.
In fact, it is even more reason to hit the sack, says Professor Amanda Ellison.
Even a hug can reduce chances of an attack, she claims
Prof Ellison says an orgasm triggers the release of “happy chemical” serotonin.
Case studies of people who suffer from frequent migraines show they have lower levels of serotonin than others.
They also crave sex 20 per cent more than those whose headaches were caused by simple tension.
But their migraine symptoms disappeared instantly after a romp between the sheets.
Professor Ellison, of Durham University, writes in her book Splitting: “Sex results in an injection of serotonin.
“The case of two male episodic cluster headache sufferers, one who was 61, the other 47, was reported in Israel. At the point of orgasm with their respective partners both men reported their headaches suddenly disappeared.”
Munching chocolate and drinking caffeine after sex also gave the body serotonin shots.
She said another migraine cure was love hormone oxytocin, adding: “Choose a hugger for a partner. They don’t call it neurochemistry for nothing.”
