Parents of Brit girls ‘gang-raped by eight men’ appeal for help finding other suspects
THE DEVASTATED parents of two Brit schoolgirls gang raped while on holiday in Italy have appealed for help in tracking down others involved.
The 15-year-old girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were targeted after going to a birthday party last Sunday on the final day of their break before flying home for the start of school.
Cops believe at least eight people may have been involved in the horrific attack and four men aged between 19 and 23 are in custody, while another three are on bail and one other is being hunted.
In an interview with local media in Pisticci, where the rape happened at a villa during a birthday party, the father of one of the victims, said: ''Who knows what happened at the party where my little girl was raped should speak.
''Justice still needs to be done because not all those who were responsible have been identified.
HORRIFIC ATTACK
"They all need to be taken off the streets because parents who live in this town need to know their children can go out safely.''
He added:''We need everybody's help, our little girls need justice and above all we need to make sure nothing similar ever happens again.
''Back in England there is more sense of civility in social behaviour, the message that arrives from Italy, with incidents like this, is that it is a country where going out can be dangerous, instead life is made for living and at 15 years old you should not be afraid to go out."
As he spoke a banner was hung from the town hall with the slogan "We are not all the same. Our community asks your forgiveness.''
Mayor Viviana Verri said: ''We ask forgiveness, in the name of the town that I represent, to the victims and their families, who have had the courage to report what happened, allowing the investigators to catch the suspects quickly and this is a fine example to all people who are victims of violence.
''Tests have shown the girls were given drugged drinks at the party and Italian police have released CCTV of the group fleeing the party including one of who is seen limping after having his private parts bitten by one of the girls.
Both girls are still in Italy where a fast track trial is due to take place this week.
All four of those arrested on suspicion of sexual violence and wounding deny the charges and claim the girls consented.
