- Taking first place in the tandem heat were Goldendoodles Derby and Teddy. Additional first place-winners were: Giselle, a Rhodesian ridgeback mix; Gidget, a white pug; and Skylar, an Australian cattle dog
- Now in its thirteenth year, the competition raises money for the San Diego Humane Society
Dogs waxed down their surfboards and prepared to ride the waves in an annual surfing competition.
More than 60 canines of different breeds and sizes participated in the Imperial Beach Surf Dog Competition held in San Diego, California.
Now it’s in 13th year, the competition that is held next to Imperial Beach Pier raises money for the San Diego Humane Society.
The pups are judged in a number of categories including ability to surf solo, wave size, difficulty of the surf, and riding an open-faced wave compared to a white-water wave.
Hundreds of spectators turned up in the 70-degree weather, many of them owners of the pups in the competition, to cheer on their furry friends.
Taking first place in the tandem heat were Goldendoodles Derby and Teddy. Additional first place-winners were Giselle, a Rhodesian ridgeback mix; Gidget, a white pug; and Skylar, an Australian cattle dog.
