How Royal Wedding photographer captured stunning image of ‘exhausted’ Meghan
Royal Wedding photographer Alexi Lubomirski captured one stunning image by chance in just three minutes after an ‘exhausted’ Meghan Markle slumped inbetween Harry’s legs.
Sat on the Rose Garden steps at Windsor Castle, the intimate image shows Harry and Meghan giggling as she leans against her new husband.
The day’s official photographer Alexi Lubomirski has spoken about the touching image and how he quickly asked the bride and groom to perch on the steps for some quick candid shots.
The fashion photographer, who was also invited as a VIP guest to the big day, said: "After the set up shots we went to the reception and I said if the couple had any energy after that, we were going to go into the Rose Garden and take some intimate quick shots.
"We went out there and had about three and a half minutes to take some quick shots because everything was running like clockwork.
"Then I said ‘OK, you can go back to your thing now, but listen just before you go in sit down on these stairs’.
"She just slumped in between his legs and there was this moment they were just laughing because of how exhausted they were and that finally it was all over."
Lubomirski went on to explain how he tackled the natural set up shots inside Windsor Castle.
He added in an interview with the BBC: "I didn’t want it to feel like a sports team photo or an army photo, regimented and linear.
"So he talked about how we could break it and get some rhythm and asymmetry into it and it all came down to very little tiny things – nothing crazy.
"In terms of how were were placing people – we wanted some people sitting, some people standing, kids on parents laps and that was a huge thing to get that realness out of it."
Along with the intimate picture of the couple sat alone on the steps, a further two official royal wedding images were released.
One showed Meghan and Harry with their six bridesmaids and four page boys, while the other included the happy couple and the immediate Royal family.
Speaking about taking on the role of official wedding photographer, Alexi Lubomirski said it was an "honour" to picture the newlyweds.
He said: "It has been an incredible honor and privilege to document the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s inspiring journey of love, hope and family; from the engagement photos, all the way through to the official wedding and family portraits on Saturday.
"This has been a beautiful chapter in my career and life, that I will happily never forget. Thank you to everyone at @kensingtonroyal and @theroyalfamily ."
With the wedding one of the most heavily photographed events of the year, he did not need to take pictures of the ceremony, but will instead have focused on the portraits. That meant he was able to attend the wedding as a guest with wife Giada.
He wrote on Instagram after the big day: "Went to a little wedding today 😉 …… Wow.. What a fantastic, surreal and wonderful day!
"Amazing to experience it as a guest and even more incredible to experience it as a photographer.
"Felt extremely fortunate to have been there AND to share the day with my beautiful wife (@ecoshaker) by my side, who looked stunning. MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to the happy couple!!!!"
