Spanish Fork plane crash: Aircraft smashes into building in Utah as police rush to scene

A SMALL aircraft crash-landed on top of a building in Utah as police rushed to secure the scene.

The plane crashed on the roof of a building at Mountain Country Foods in Spanish Fork on Friday afternoon.

The horror crash happened at around 1.30pm local time, less than a mile from the Spanish Fork Municipal Airport.

The Spanish Fork Police Department confirmed the plane crashed into the building and penetrated the roof but did not fall all the way through.

The airplane had a single occupant, a 77-year-old male.

Officials said the pilot was extricated from the plane and transported to a local hospital in critical condition but did not appear to have life-threatening injuries.

Video from the scene showed the two-seater aircraft broken into several pieces, with one of the wings torn off, laying several steps away.

Officials have yet to determine where the plane was headed or what caused the crash.

SFPD said the crash would be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
