Student protesters gathered outside Sussex University yesterday to demand lecturer Kathleen Stock’s resignation over her views on transgender rights.
An onlooker said the protesters chanted ‘Stock Out’ even as parents and prospective students attended an open day.
Carrying placards with the same slogan and ‘We were meant to be safe here’, scores stood outside Library Square in Brighton calling for her to go.
The philosophy professor at the University of Sussex has been subjected to a student-led campaign after she was branded a transphobe for suggesting that ‘sex is an immutable biological fact’.

In-keeping with their demonstrations until now, those who attended the rally all wore masks on their faces to conceal their identities
Fears for her security prompted by the demonstrations led to Prof Stock being advised to install CCTV at her home and to hire security to protect her on campus.
The feminist academic has said she believes gender identity is not more important than biological sex, ‘particularly when it comes to law and policy’, and that people cannot change their biological sex.
Prof Stock, a trustee with activist group LGB Alliance, accused of ‘anti-trans’ policies, has been advised by police not to visit campus and to give her lectures online.
She has faced a torrent of abuse on social media and been branded a ‘terf’ (trans-exclusionary radical feminist ) for opposing the ‘transwomen are women’ mantra.
Prof Stock fears her career has been ‘effectively ended’ by her University and College Union chapter’s call for an investigation into ‘institutional transphobia’.
