Swedish man, 22, arrested over brutal Christmas Eve murder of ‘drug kingpin’ Flamur Beqiri in front of wife and son – The Sun
A MAN was yesterday arrested in Denmark over the brutal Christmas Eve murder of suspected drug kingpin Flamur "Alex" Beqiri in front of his wife and young son.
The 22-year-old suspect was held under a European Arrest Warrant at Copenhagen Airport at the request of Scotland Yard after arriving there on a flight from Thailand.
He is wanted for questioning over the callous shooting of 36-year-old Swedish national Beqiri, known as Alex, outside his £1.5million home in Battersea, South West London.
The man arrested yesterday, Anis Hassimi, is from the Swedish city of Malmo, where Beqiri fled in 2016 after receiving death threats.
British murder squad detectives have been liaising with Swedish colleagues and believe Beqiri, of Albanian origin, was caught up in a gang war with North African criminals.
Beqiri’s best friend was convicted robber Naief Adawi, targeted by a gunman who murdered his doctor wife Karolin Hakim instead as she held their two-month-old baby in Malmo last August.
A hitman is believed to have kept Beqiri under watch before gunning him down as he returned home with wife Debora and their son on the evening of December 24.
Beqiri – whose sister Missé featured in reality TV series The Real Housewives Of Cheshire – ran a record company in London.
However, police believe it was a front for drug smuggling activities which funded his extravagant lifestyle and lavish six-figure Lake Como wedding in October 2018.
The man arrested for Beqiri’s murder is said to be of Tunisian origin.
He denies any involvement in the murder and has vowed to fight extradition to the UK.
The Metropolitan Police said: “A 22-year-old man was arrested at Copenhagen Airport, Denmark, on 20 January on a European Arrest Warrant on suspicion of the murder of Flamur Beqiri.
“He remains in custody in Denmark pending extradition proceedings back to the UK.”
