But there are occasions when this trust can be terribly misplaced and the fruits of their labour can go very, very wrong indeed.

Here we have collected together the best – or the worst – construction fails.

Some really do defy belief, like one where transparent doors were fitted onto toilets to afford their users privacy.

Then there’s the disabled ramp which ends above a two foot drop rather than sloping to the floor.
