Tributes to motocross star Jude Morris, 17, who died in horror fall at racetrack competition
TRIBUTES have been paid to a teenage motocross rider who died in a horror fall at a racetrack at the weekend.
Jude Morris, 17, passed away while competing at the British Motocross Championship in Duns, Scottish Borders, on Saturday.
Police confirmed emergency services rushed to the racetrack after the alarm was raised around 11.05am.
An air ambulance and two ambulances were scrambled and paramedics desperately tried to save Jude, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's understood no other riders were involved in the fatal incident.
Heartfelt tributes have been paid to Jude, following the "extremely talented" rider's death.
Jude, from Corfe Castle, Dorset, has been described as someone who was "polite and kind to all" and a potential "future adult British champion".
A statement from the Auto Cycle Union read: "Following an accident during the first MXY2 race, in the British Motocross Championship event held at Duns on Saturday 28th August, the ACU are very sad to announce the tragic passing away of Jude Morris.
"Jude, son of Mark and Lucy from Corfe Castle in Dorset was one of the leading youth riders within the UK and had the potential to be a future adult British Champion. Jude was lying second in the MXY2 Series. No other riders were involved in the incident and Medics were on scene as quickly as possible to give assistance to Jude."
Steve McCauley, Race Director and Chairman of the ACU motocross committee, said: “An incredibly sad day for everyone. Jude was always smiling and lived for competing in Motocross.
"An extremely talented young lad, he was one of the most dedicated and hard-working young riders I have ever had the pleasure to meet. At this very sad time our thoughts are with Jude’s parents Mark and Lucy and their family."
A statement from Duns Motocross Track read: "As we begin a new week, we look back with heartbroken sadness on events from the weekend. Our thoughts are with Jude’s parents Mark and Lucy and their family.

A statement from Jude's local track, Rogershill Raceway MX, read: "We are very saddened to hear that Jude Morris has passed whilst competing yesterday. He has been a regular at Rogershill since he was small and we enjoyed watching his riding progress into an amazing talent.
"He will be sorely missed round the paddock because he was so polite and kind to all. Our thoughts and love go to Jude's family and friends."
Other people paid their respects and offered their condolences to Jude's heartbroken family.
One wrote: "Can’t get over this, thoughts go out from us up in Scotland down to Jude's family & friends."
Another said: "I had the privilege to watch you ride, Such a talented young man taken far too soon. My thoughts go out to all Jude's family at such a sad time."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received report of a one-vehicle crash at Duns Motocross around 11.05am on Saturday, 28 August, 2021.
"Emergency services attended and a 17-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call to attend the British Motocross Championship in Duns on Saturday 28 August
"We dispatched two ambulance crews, an emergency medical retrieval service, a critical care practitioner and an air ambulance.”
