Trump asks suburban women at Pennsylvania rally: ‘Will you please like me?’
President Trump pleaded for support from suburban women at his Tuesday night rally, citing his decision to repeal a low-income housing initiative that he said “saved” their neighborhoods.
“So can I just ask you to do me a favor: suburban women, will you please like me?” Trump told the crowd in Johnstown, Pa. “I saved your damned neighborhood, OK?”
Trump touted his move to rescind the Obama-era fair housing regulation that aimed to combat segregation in the suburbs.
The policy, Trump said, “destroyed your neighborhoods.”
“I ended the regulation that brought crime to the suburbs and you can live the American dream.”
The president said his decision to dismantle the regulation benefits everybody, including minorities.
“Remember this, 29 percent of the people experiencing the American dream in the suburbs happen to be minority and you don’t know that, but 29 percent,” Trump said. “We’re doing this for everybody.”
Polls show Trump lagging with suburban female voters compared to the 2016 election.
