Vaccine rollout begins as Victoria records no new cases

Victorians have begun receiving the first shots of the Pfizer vaccine, as the state recorded no new cases of coronavirus in the past day.

The first Victorian to receive the jab was Professor Rhonda Stuart, the head of infection control at Monash Health.

Her team treated the first COVID-19 case confirmed in January last year as well as Victoria’s last coronavirus patient to be discharged from hospital in November, at the end of state’s second wave.

There are 25 active cases of COVID-19 in the state. More than 8000 tests were processed on Sunday.

The Victorian government yesterday announced a $143 million recovery package aimed at helping businesses affected by last week’s “circuit-breaker” lockdown.

More to come.
