Who is Roo Powell?

WRITER and advocate Roo Powell has a new show streaming on Discovery+, Undercover Underage.

Powell has worked as a tireless advocate for children who may be experiencing sexual abuse and exploitation.

Who is Roo Powell?

Powell jokingly describes herself on her website as "an award-winning writer, child advocate, and mediocre camel rider."

While that might be a surface-level description, at just 38, Powell has achieved so much more.

She was born in Hong Kong and moved to the US, where she began pursuing a career in journalism.

She took her first writing job with AdWeek and went on to write brand copy for companies including Whole Foods and Target.

Journalism eventually lead Powell to advocacy, and she began traveling around the world to write about sex abuse and human trafficking.

Now, Powell has started her own non-profit SOSA, or Safe from Online Sex Abuse.

SOSA both educates about and raises awareness for the problem of online underage sexual abuse and exploitation.

What is Undercover Underage?

Feeding off of the popularity of true crime content, Powell has launched her own true crime documentary, Undercover Underage.

On the show, Powell turns herself into a teenager and waits for older men to reach out online.

Powell even has a makeup team that makes her look younger, as she FaceTimes and video chats with older men online.

The crew then records the conversations to send to law enforcement.

Undercover Underage is now available for streaming on Discovery+.
