It’s clear that Gabrielle Union has imparted her style wisdom onto Kaavia James. Now, the 4-year-old is paying it forward by sharing her beauty insights with her mom. On Jan. 9, the mother-daughter duo showed off their matching Bantu-knot braids. The hairstyle, which Kaavia requested they both wear, made for the ultimate twinning moment.
“Imitation IS the best form of flattery,” Union captioned photos of their identical looks, styled by hair-care specialist Wankaya H. “@kaaviajames suggested I get the same hairstyle that she got and I was honored to oblige. Twinning is winning.” Each hairstyle featured six rows of braids tied into two Bantu knots. Wankaya also gave the pair face-framing braids. Union adorned hers with brown-and-gold wooden beads of various sizes, while Kaavia opted for shades of pink and silver to match her outfit. Union continued, “Anything for her.”
The gallery featured photos of the pair showing off their Bantu knots — and matching smiles — at home alongside husband Dwyane Wade. They even threw up identical peace signs as they posed for the camera. In the final slide, Wade recorded a video of the mother-daughter duo during playtime. “Oh, I love it,” he says as Kaavia takes off her purple headband to show off her new look. Wade then pans to a smiling Union. “Twinsies,” he adds.
Wade also kicked off the storm of red heart emoji in the comments section, followed by Angelica Ross, Lexi Underwood, and Octavia Spencer, who wrote, “She’s the cutest!” Jeremy Pope added, “Everything. I need me some braids now.”
On Kaavia’s Instagram account, Union shared a video of her daughter in the styling chair, tablet set up to help her pass the time during her braiding appointment. At the start of the video, Kaavia beams as Union helps her separate her natural hair. The final clip reveals the 4-year-old admiring her fresh look. “New year, same me coming with the [fire] hairstyles and you know this maaaaannn!” Union captioned Kaavia’s post.
