90s legend Kavana looks unrecognisable after being sober for 1 year

Nineties pop legend Kavana – real name Anthony Kavanagh – has celebrated marking one year sober, leaving fans shocked with a snap showing off his transformation.

The musician, 45, looked worlds away from his "before" snap, which showed him arriving at rehab during a blackout. His new snap then saw him looking undeniably healthier than ever as he beamed for the camera.

Taking to Twitter, Kavana shared the snaps alongside the caption: "Today I am 1 year sober. On the left, me arriving at rehab in a blackout. On the right, me today.

"Thanks to those that have helped me get here a day at a time #recovery #grateful #1yearsober."

Fans were quick to remark on his transformation, and share their own experiences with alcohol and addiction, with one replying: "Well done!! This is one of the most inspirational messages I’ve ever seen. Your face today radiates positivity, happiness and contentment.

"You must be so proud. My relationship with booze changes each month, but this has inspired me to stop and embrace life. Thank you!!"

Another wrote: "Buddy huge congrats. What a journey you’ve been on – and the results speak for themselves. Serenity to you x"

And Actress Jane Lynch commented: "This is glorious" while dancer Ian Waite penned: "Awesome mate! Keep up the great work."

Back in 2021 Kavana admitted that he had relapsed after 100 days sober, admitting that he felt "guilty and sick" over this.

At the time, he wrote: "Ok. I think it's important for me to be transparent about my recovery. I relapsed after 100 days of sobriety.

"I feel guilty and sick and I hate myself after letting the people I love down. I thought I knew better. I have to start again"

And then last February, he took to Twitter to share a devasting admission that he had relapsed again, posting an apology to those close to him, he then signed off social media for a extended period of time.

At the time, his statement read: "Today I go into rehab. Again. This illness of Alcoholism has got its grip. I'll be off social media for a while. To what family I have left, I'm sorry I wasn't truthful I've been going through a lot of mental struggles.

"Good news I'm going to get the help I need. My phone will be off for a while. Clint, Aunty Angela, Aunty Maria, Brad, I'm going to be OK and I love you all madly x."
