Almost two weeks after Aaron Carter’s passing, TMZ have released details about his death certificate. The document states that the 34-year-old’s cause of death is still being investigated and that his family made the decision to have him cremated.
Carter’s ashes will be held by his twin sister, Angel, until his family decide on the best way to honour him.
A final resting place for the late singer is yet to be determined.
The document also reveals that his mother Jane was the first person to inform authorities about his tragic passing.
The current status of his cause of death is “deferred pending further investigation”.
The singer died without leaving a will meaning the state will decide who will inherit his assets.
Aaron is said to have been discovered dead by his housekeeper Betty at his California home.
His passing came less than a year after he and his ex, Melanie Martin, welcomed a baby boy.
The popstar is the younger brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter.
Taking to Instagram after his death, Nick told fans he was “heartbroken” by the news.
The singer shared various pictures of the pair from their younger years, alongside a heartfelt caption.
He penned: “Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded.
“I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.
“Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here.
“I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you Chizz.”

He concluded his post, adding: “Now you can finally have the peace you could never find here on earth…. God, please take care of my baby brother.”
Aaron’s twin sister also said of her brother’s death: “To my twin… I loved you beyond measure.
“You will be missed dearly… My funny, sweet Aaron, I have so many memories of you and I, and I promise to cherish them.”
She continued: “I know you’re at peace now. I will carry you with me until the day I die and get to see you again.”
Aaron was also remembered by his ex-girlfriend Hilary Duff.
The couple had an on-off relationship from 2000 to 2003.
The actress wrote on her Instagram page: “For Aaron, I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world.
“You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent… boy did my teenage self love you deeply.
“Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy.”
Aaron opened up about overcoming his well-documented drug addiction earlier this year.
He told the Mail Online he was coming up to being five years clean.
He went on to say his recovery had been largely ignored by the public and he is still seen as a train wreck.
At the time of the chat, he said he had no opiate issues, has quit smoking weed and was not an excessive alcohol drinker.
