Adele Roberts breaks record for running London Marathon with stoma

Adele Roberts completed the London Marathon in 3 hours 30 minutes

Adele Roberts was victorious in breaking the world record time for completing the London marathon with a stoma bag on Sunday. 

The London Marathon 2023 saw many celebs including journalist Louise Minchin, Radio DJ Chris Evans, actors from BBC’s EastEnders and contestants from Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off taking part in the name of several good causes.

From raising money for the Grenfell Foundation to cancer research, hundreds of charities were represented at Sunday’s event.

40,000 runners took part after months of preparation and followed a route that took them past some of London’s most iconic landmarks, including Tower Bridge, London Eye and Buckingham Palace.

Express.co.uk takes a look at some of the stars who ran the prestigious race this year, as well as the fantastic causes they are raising money for.

The brave star broke the world record time for completing the marathon with a stoma bag after bowel cancer battle. This is her third London Marathon, despite her ongoing recovery. She represented Nissan, who are raising money for the Attitude Magazine Foundation to help support LGBTQ causes.

Chris Evans is running the distance with his wife Tash

The Virgin Radio presenter has already completed eight marathons and said of the event: “It’s such a focus for us, it’s the number-one thing in our social diary.”

Virgin Radio star Chris paired his royal purple shirt with neon running shorts and shocking pink trainers. He looked ready for action as he posed with long-distance runner Eliud Kipchoge.

Louise Minchin took on the challenge with daughter Mia

The former BBC Breakfast presenter is attempting her first London Marathon with daughter Mia in order to raise money for charity MOVE, which supports those affected by cancer. 

While this might be Louise’s first time at the event, she is undoubtedly an incredible athlete, previously running in a number of other marathons as well as representing Britain for her age category at the European Triathlon Championships.

Presenter Kirsty Gallacher and TOWIE star Mark Wright were all smiles as they geared up to take on the gruelling 26.2 mile run on Sunday morning.

Mark Wright could not contain his emotion after completing his second marathon

After the race, Mark said he was “absolutely buzzing” after beating the 3h 41min time it took him to run his first marathon.

The late Dame Barbara Windsor’s widower Scott Mitchell is joined by Bab’s Army.

The actor and husband of the late EastEnders star is taking part in the race to honour his wife and to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK after the actress was diagnosed with the disease in 2014.

He will lead a group called Bab’s Army, which includes stars like fellow EastEnders actors Heather Peace, Lacey Turner and Adam Woodyatt, as well as Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown.

Contestants from the popular Channel 4 baking show, including the series’ youngest ever winner Peter Sawkins, took part to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford will be running for a cause close to his heart

The musician is taking part in order to raise funds for the Grenfell Foundation, a charity of which he is Chair, in order to support the bereaved families and survivors of the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire.

The Crown star Josh O’Connor ran the marathon for Samaritans

Josh O’Connor, who played Prince Charles in Netflix’s The Crown, was cheered on by his pals as he ran 26.2 miles across London.

Jake Quickenden said the marathon was ‘the hardest thing’ he’d ever done

X Factor and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star Jake Quickenden triumphantly completed the marathon wearing a brightly coloured ensemble.
