Amanda Bynes, 37, is detained by police for a mental health evaluation
Amanda Bynes, 37, is ‘detained by police for a mental health evaluation in LA’…only two months after being released from psychiatric hold
Amanda Bynes was reportedly detained by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department on Saturday for a mental health evaluation, according to TMZ.
The former Nickelodeon star, 37, was recently released from a mental health facility in April after being placed on psychiatric hold for three weeks due to roaming the streets of LA naked and appearing to be in a manic state.
This Saturday, the She’s The Man actress was placed in handcuffs outside of her place of residence, with law enforcement sources telling the outlet that they responded to a call from ‘a woman who was in distress.’
TMZ reported that the woman was Bynes herself, with the sources adding, ‘she was taken to a police station where a professional medical unit was standing by to check her out and determine if she needed further treatment.’
Eyewitnesses who had seen the incident unfold told the publication that Amanda was ‘calm during the interaction’ with LAPD officers, but ‘looked defeated as they dealt with her.’
DailyMail.com has reached out to representatives for Bynes for comment.

Bynes was then placed in the back of one of the police cruisers that had arrived to the scene. However, it is unclear if officers had ‘escorted’ the star out of her place of residence, or if she was met by cops outside.
TMZ also reported that it is currently unknown whether Amanda was released after an evaluation or taken to a hospital for a 5150 hold, which is for individuals who are placed in custody for a span of 72 hours for psychiatric hospitalization.
Her latest mental health evaluation comes only months after the actress was placed in a mental health facility in March due to her reportedly wandering the streets of Los Angeles for four days after her vehicle was towed in the Long Beach area.
TMZ previously reported at the time that at one point, she roamed the streets without any clothes on, with eyewitnesses stating that Bynes herself ‘waved a car down, telling the driver she was coming down from a psychotic episode,’ and proceeded to call 911.
After she was picked up, Amanda was initially put under a 72-hour psychiatric hold, which was initially extended while her team at the mental health facility devised a treatment plan for her.
After three weeks of treatment, she reportedly worked with the facility’s staff to determine that she was ready to get back to her regular routines and checked herself out of the hospital for an outpatient treatment program.
‘Amanda has left the medical facility on her own recognizance,’ a source told Dailymail.com at the time. ‘She was very cooperative, participated in her recovery the staff supported her decision to leave as she had successfully completed the treatment program.’
Bynes ‘has been advised to continue to distance herself from her’ former fiancé, Paul Michael, the source said, adding that ‘her family and friends believe that her split was a catalyst in her breakdown and that he is not a healthy and safe person for her to be around.’

The source went on to say that the former pair ‘were codependent on each other, and the latter part of their relationship was toxic due, in part, to the fact that they met in rehab. They substituted their addiction to substances for an addiction for each other.’
Sources also told Dailymail.com in March that ‘she has been advised to continue to distance herself from’ Michael.
The pair initially announced their engagement in February 2020, but reportedly split only three weeks later. However, in March, Amanda announced her pregnancy with her attorney later stating in May that she was not expecting her first child.
Earlier this year in April, her ex-fiance, Paul Michael, claimed that both he and Amanda had broken up only days before her mental breakdown that occurred in March.
While reflecting on the end of their chaotic romance, the actress’ former partner alleged that two weeks before walking the streets of Los Angeles naked, she had ‘disappeared for three days’ before coming ‘home with another guy.’
He went on to tell TMZ that ‘they argued’ and Bynes, who he reportedly first met back at Alcoholics Anonymous in November 2019, ‘said she ‘didn’t care about him anymore.’
After calling it quits, he ‘packed up his things and left their home.’ Michael recalled feeling blindsided by her behavior as she ‘seemed stable’ and was focused on her becoming a nail artist after enrolling in a cosmetology course.
He speculated that something may have happened to her because she ‘seemed like a different person’ during their last encounter.
Past conservatorship: Bynes had previously been under a conservatorship since 2013, but it was ended last year in March 2022; seen back in 2009 in Los Angeles
Following her three-week stay at the mental health facility, sources close to the Hairspray actress told TMZ last month in May that the star was not having an easy time adjusting back to her normal life.
The insiders informed the outlet that after checking out of the hospital, Bynes went back to living alone and stated ‘she doesn’t have a lot of people in her life.’
They added that ‘Amanda hasn’t been focusing on some of the passions she had before’ which include nail tech and fashion.
Despite facing difficulties, the sources expressed to TMZ that Bynes has been ‘attending her outpatient treatments, seeing therapists, and taking her medication.’

Hollywood star: Amanda is known for starring on The Amanda Show from 1999 to 2002, and also appeared in hit films such as She’s The Man (2006) and later Easy A (2010)
TMZ previously reported that Bynes’ parents were not considering trying to set up another conservatorship, as she had been doing relatively well prior to her mental health crisis in March of this year.
The original arrangement began in 2013, after she was involuntarily committed after multiple run-ins with the law starting a year earlier.
She had two hit-and-runs, as well as a DUI, in 2012, and she was later arrested in 2013 for allegedly throwing a bong out of the window of her 36th-floor apartment in Manhattan.
Amanda is known for starring on Nickelodeon’s The Amanda Show from 1999 to 2002, and also appeared in hit films such as She’s The Man (2006) and later Easy A (2010) and the musical Hairspray (2007).
