Anita Dobson caused a furore when she wore a short dress to the British Soap Awards last month.
Unkind critics of Queen guitarist Brian May’s wife claimed she was too old to show off her legs at the age of 73.
The former EastEnders star said: ‘My legs are still here. I don’t really listen to what the critics say — you have to be strong enough to wear what suits you.’

Speaking at the National Film Awards in London on Monday, where she won the lifetime achievement prize, she added: ‘If you feel happy and comfortable, that’s it.
‘There’s always going to be someone that loves you and someone that knocks you for it.’
Anita – who is best known for her role from 1985 to 1988 as Angie Watts – and Brian, 74, have been married since 2000.

And he recently credited Anita with ‘saving his life’ after complications from a heart attack that ‘nearly killed’ him.
The rocker suffered a heart attack in May 2020 shortly after incurring a separate, unconnected gardening injury which left him hospitalised.
He had three stents put inside his heart after doctors discovered congested arteries.

Talking about his health scare in a candid interview, Brian said the cause of his heart attack is ‘still a bit of a mystery’ and he thinks it could be due to an undetected case of coronavirus.
The legendary musician explained that he felt ‘pretty grim’, tired and had a ‘bad cough’ while touring in Korea, Japan and Australia in January.
Brian said it is possible he had an early case of Covid-19 and the deadly virus ‘thickened his blood’ causing his heart attack.
The musician was tested for coronavirus, which came back negative, but he thinks due to his early symptoms it was unlikely to show on the results.
Speaking to the Daily Express, Brian said he was the ‘fittest person’ on Queen’s Rhapsody tour and he would bike every morning.

He added to the newspaper: ‘I’m not a person who has ever smoked. I don’t drink that much. I don’t eat fatty foods so I didn’t tick any of the boxes to get a heart attack so it is still a bit of a mystery.
‘I have one theory, which is: I’m conscious that I had a pretty bad cough most of the way through that tour. And some of the time I felt pretty grim and I thought I was just feeling tired. I think it’s possible that I had the Covid virus early on in the tour.’
Also during the interview, he spoke about the complications that came after his recent health scare, saying the medication he had to take afterwards ‘nearly killed’ him more than the heart attack.
Recalling how he could ‘hardly crawl across the floor’, the rocker sweetly praised his soap star wife Anita, 71, for taking care of him.
He told the publication: ‘She was incredible. She totally saved my life because I couldn’t do anything and she just kind of nursed me, so I will forever be in her debt. She did an incredible job on me.’
