‘I reckon Barry has a fighting spirit and he’s not going to give up easily,’ he added.
On Wednesday, Peter had said ‘things are tough’ and asked fans to send their love to the man who had been making them laugh for decades.
‘At this moment Barry is a serious condition but being kept comfortable. He’s surrounded by family,’ he said.
MailOnline has contacted Barry’s representatives for comment.
Earlier this week, Barry issued a statement through his publicist thanking fans and well-wishers after he was re-admitted to hospital.
‘Barry would like to thank every body for the support and best wishes he has received but he would like more and more,’ his publicist told 9News.
His wife Elizabeth Spender also told 9News that he was ‘doing fine’.
It comes just weeks after the entertainer revealed he was in ‘agony’ after a fall at his home in February, forcing him to undergo hip replacement surgery.
Barry said the injury to his hip occurred when he tripped on a rug while reaching for a book.
At the time, he said he was hoping to be back on his feet in time for another ‘one man show’ to be held later this year.
‘I have to get back on my feet… I’m going back on tour later this year.
‘The result of my broken hip means I now have a titanium hip… you can call me ‘Bionic Bazza’,’ he told the Sydney Morning Herald in March.
The star said his medical bill ‘is bloody enormous’, adding: ‘I strongly advise not breaking your hip!’
Barry had been working with a physiotherapist at a rehabilitation facility in Sydney’s eastern suburbs before this latest setback.
