BBC presenter forced off air after suffering heart issues

BBC Radio Devon presenter David Fitzgerald was hosting his usual slot when, just 30 minutes later, an unexpected heart issue forced him off air.

He was rushed to hospital for a medical examination, while stand-in Michael Chequer took over at the station.

Tense fans wondered what could have happened, after Michael announced that David was “feeling a little under the weather”.

“He has left the studio to get himself checked out. He is absolutely fine, we will keep you updated and let you know. He will be back with you ASAP,” he reassured confused fans.

David has since taken to social media to open up about the issue, telling the world via Facebook: “Just a little heart issue this morning, on the radio… thank you Derriford.”

A BBC spokesperson confirmed that Fitz, as the presenter is affectionately known, “is recovering well at home and is hoping to be back on air soon”.

The station also clarified to Express.co.uk that he has not had a heart attack.

However, the news came as quite a shock to his loyal fans, after seeing the photo he uploaded to Facebook of himself hooked up to tubes in a hospital bed.

He used the snap to offer reassurance that he is being monitored while waiting for his health to stabilise.

“So sorry to hear that you have had a scare David keep smiling and rest,” encouraged one of his fans via Twitter.

David has been a regular fixture in the media world for decades, and was one of those who reported on Princess Diana’s tragic death.

The award-winning broadcaster was once honoured by the Olympic Committee for his TV production work in the acclaimed Red Arrows documentary, too.

The star even reported on the arrest of OJ Simpson, whose case was handled by Kim Kardashian’s late father Robert Kardashian, when he stood accused of murdering his wife.

Fitz, who has worked for Sky News as well as BBC Radio Devon, has already been sorely missed by his legions of followers, if the comments online are anything to go by.

However, a spokesperson has confirmed that they hope he will return to the airwaves soon.
