Coronation Concert: Lucy Illingworth leaves Camilla close to tears

Blind and autistic Lucy Illingworth, 13, shocked audiences with her stunning piano skills at the King’s Coronation Concert – even leaving the newly crowned King and Queen speechless.

The musician played a rendition of Bach’s Prelude in C Major.

The teenager’s performance left not only the 20,000 spectators watching but also evoked smiles and applause from the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte.

Lucy was chosen as one of the talents from the Amber Trust, a non-profit organisation providing musical opportunities for blind and partially sighted children.

The charity, which is part of Queen Camilla’s patronage, aims to support young musicians to fulfil their ambitions.

They shared: “We are thrilled that Lucy has the opportunity of participating in such a historic moment, celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort.”

Lucy was born with cancerous tumours in her eyes preventing her vision, and is largely non-verbal.

She also has a chromosome 16 duplication, resulting in autism traits, developmental delay and intellectual disability.

Lucy’s mother, Candice Illingworth couldn’t hide her smile as her daughter performed.

Her performance follows her winning playing for the Channel 4 series The Piano where she gained fame for her Chopin’s Nocturne in B flat minor at Leeds Train Station performance.

Her flawless rendition of Debussy’s Arabesque in the series finale shot her to fame, capturing the nation’s hearts.

Classical pianist and fellow concert performer Lang Lang, 40, was one of the judges on the show and commended her as a “genius”.

For the talented pianist, music has allowed her to communicate.

The new King and Queen seemed especially impressed as they immediately applauded her.

Although many spectators were disappointed by the line-up at the concert, it seems Lucy’s performance made up for it as many flocked to Twitter to sing her praises.

“You had me in tears! What a wonderful talent and a beautiful young lady. Bravo!” (sic)
