BTB Savage Killer Arrested, Held on $1 Million Bond
Prior to surrendering to police and being charged with murder, Montrel Lenard Burley was arrested one day after the deadly shooting for narcotics possession, but was released.
AceShowbiz -A man accused of shooting and killing BTB Savage has been in custody. Montrel Lenard Burley has been arrested and charged with the murder of the Houston rapper, whose real name is Darrell Gentry.
Houston Police Dept. said Montrel surrendered to authorities at the Harris County Joint Processing Center on Tuesday, April 11. In a court appearance that day, the state requested no bond for Montrel. The judge ultimately set his bond at $1 million. She noted that only a district judge can deny the bond, which would require a hearing.
The judge claimed Montrel presents a flight risk, citing his previous conviction for failing to appear in court while out on bail. She also said the court is concerned because Montrel was willing to travel the distance to avenge the death of his friend. He previously lived in Houston, but had been living in the New Braunfels area for the past two years.
Court records additionally show that Montrel was under arrest and in custody one day after the deadly shooting. On March 31, he was arrested and charged with narcotics possession during a traffic stop in New Braunfels on March 31.
He was a passenger in the vehicle that police believe was used in the shooting at 2100 Mid Lane on March 30. When police started asking the 40-year-old about the car, which he had rented, he requested an attorney and ended the interview. He was then released.
Burley is believed to be a close friend and fellow gang member of Omar Richardson, a man killed by BTB’s girlfriend in self-defense during a robbery at their home earlier this year. Montrel was allegedly present and also injured in the home invasion. San Antonio police had apparently said the shooting was justified.
Just hours before he was shot and killed, BTB posted on social media photos of him at the bloody crime scene. He had also conducted interviews about the incident, claiming he showed no mercy and told the suspect, who was pleading for help, “I don’t give a (expletive) about you. You’re going to die.”
Police believe two men opened fire on BTB as he drove his white Mercedes on March 31. The second suspect has not been identified yet and is still at large.
