Carol Vorderman, 62, gave a brilliant insight into her love life as she championed her “special friend system” and shut down “judgemental” people who take issue with it. The ageless presenter appeared on Michelle Visage’s Rule Breakers podcast where she was asked about the romance in her life.
Recalling her experience, Carol said: “The language around a woman of particularly my generation when we were growing up, you know, if you’d had more than one partner before you got married you were this you were that.
“Everything was derogatory about a woman… everything was judgemental.”
To follow on from her sentiment, the former Countdown star exclaimed: “You can take that and throw it out of the window! That’s my polite way of saying what you can do with that.”
She continued: “The only thing I was sold when I was younger was this fairy-tale.

“Whereas my daughter’s generation is the first generation where they are expected to have careers and earn money.
“They have independence as a generation and different decisions to make to my generation.
“So, I can guarantee that the ‘special friend’ system, even though it might seem quite shocking to some people now, it won’t be in 20-years-time it will be absolutely standard.
“And it’s about what makes you happy!”
Carol’s statement was celebrated by Michelle before the Cambridge graduate gave the perfect response to anyone questioning whether she has found a partner.
She did a weary-sounding impression of someone asking: “Have you got a partner yet? Have you got a man?”
Before exclaiming: “No actually I’ve got five!”
Her statement prompted a loud cheer from Michelle who gushed: “You legend you!”

Carol has been married twice, first to Royal Navy officer Christopher Mather in 1985. However, their marriage lasted just one year.
She later wed management consultant Patrick King in 1990 and they share two children: Katie, 30, and Cameron, 25.
Carol and Patrick separated in 2000.
She later dated journalist Desmond Kelly four five years, but they called it quits in 2007.
Carol first opened up about her “special friends” back in 2020 when she told the Daily Mail that she probably won’t marry again.
She told the publication: “I’m always on the move and I have a pretty low boredom threshold. My happiness doesn’t depend on being part of a couple, I know that.
“I get up to a lot of mischief. I have a number of special friends but I’m not doing anything wrong. Everyone’s single.
“And yes, apart from one, they’re all younger than me.”
