Cher was one of the many celebrities who paid her respects to the late Queen yesterday following the news of her death aged 96. The monarch died surrounded by her loved ones at Balmoral after being under medical superviison from doctors.

Singer Cher began her tweet by saying she was “sad” about the news and was happy to have met the Queen.

She went on to say: “I Was In Long Line of Ppl Waiting 2 Meet Her, Yet When She Got 2 Me, She Asked Me Pertinent Questions, & Seemed Genuinely Interested In Talking 2 Me.”(sic)

Cher added the Queen had a “great sense of humour” but went on to confuse fans by adding: “I’m proud she was a [cow emoji].”

The emoji was certainly a talking point amongst fans who questioned what she meant by it.

Jolie Adams commented: “What does the cow/bull symbol mean in this statement?”

Claire Duffett added: “Yes I read that as ‘she was a cow’.”

Judy Jordan also queried the emoji, but pointed out that it could be a bull, which symobolises the Taurus starsign.

Sophie Law added: “When I first read this I thought you were saying you’re proud she was a cow but realised you meant Taurus. I love us Taurus girls x.”

Others went on to share pictures of Cher and the Queen pictured together.

The singer first met the royal at the London premiere for Sreven Spielberg’s film Empire of the Sun in 1988.

In 2001, she sang for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance.

A picture of the pair shows the pair smiling at each other as they had a handshake.
