Coronation Street star Saira Choudhry engaged to partner – 23 years after first meeting

Former Coronation Street star Saira Choudhry has officially announced her engagement to long-term partner Marcus Jackson, a whopping 23 years on since first meeting.

The 40 year old star, who appeared on the cobbles as Naila Badil on and off between 2013 and 2019, announced the happy news on social media, after Marcus romantically popped the question on New Year’s Eve.

Alongside a selfie taken outside Edinburgh Castle, the happy couple showed off Saira’s new ring with beaming smiles, as they wrote: “I said Yesss. Mrs Jackson it is then.”

“Love you @jaxson_2013. Met you 23 years ago. Who knew our journey would lead us here. Here’s to our next chapter.”

Dressed in a chic pink coat to break the news, the glamorous soap star couldn’t look happier as businessman Marcus draped his arm around her shoulders in an affectionate embrace.

In another romantic photo, the couple also showed Marcus getting down on one knee as he officially asked the love of his life to marry him.

Standing in front of a stained glass window, a shocked Saira grinned at the camera, as an equally smitten Marcus smiled for the photographer to capture the life changing moment on film.

Immediately after sharing the news, Saira’s post was flooded with well wishes from fans, as well as a few of her former co-stars from Hollyoaks.

As well as starring in Corrie, Saira had previously been a member of the Hollyoaks cast between 2008 to 2012 when she played troubled schoolgirl Anita Roy.

Sharing their delight at her news, Sarah Lawrence, who played Darlene on the show, wrote: “You deserve all the happiness in the world my girl.”

While actress Siobhan Hewlett also shared her well wishes by adding: “Huge congratulations darling!!!”

Countless fans also shared their joy at the couple’s announcement, with several commenting with champagne bottles and heart emojis.

Following the exciting news, the couple are now preparing to ring in the New Year in Scotland as they party the night away with pals while celebrating their engagement.
