The 32-year-old wildlife cameraman is set to take to the Strictly ballroom when the launch show airs on Saturday, September 17. With all 15 contestants taking part in a group number, rehearsals for which have just begun. And it was shortly after the first training session that Hamza publicly apologised to his professional partner.

In a tweet to his 6,167 followers, accompanied by a photograph of his face, featuring beads of sweat, Hamza wrote: “Strictly 2022 training has officially started!!!

“Already saying sorry to my partner for how much I’m sweeting on them! Bring on tomorrow’s training. @bbcstrictly #excited #nervous #feelinghappy!” (sic)

The star was clearly so knackered after the training session that he misspelt the word sweating, putting in two “e’s” instead of an “a”.

The close-up picture of the star sweating came shortly after his fellow Strictly teammate, Tyler West, posted a snap of all the men taking part in the series.

Posting the picture on his social media story, Hamza looked the most jolly in comparison to his competitors, Tony Adams, Matt Goss, James Bye and Tyler, who was pulling a dissatisfied face.

When it was first announced that Hamza was going to be on the popular BBC show, the Countryfile guest presenter shared that he was “over the moon” to be taking part.

He continued to say: “Never in a million years did I think I’d be on such a cool show.

“I’ve been watching it for years and I can’t believe I’ll actually be there dancing live in front of the British public.”

Addressing his current dance skills he added: “My dance skills are currently at the level of 1970s disco vibe, but I’m ready to work hard and will be shaking it every time I get the chance – shake it ’til you make it!”

After posting on his Twitter, it is clear that fans of the star are excited to be tuning into the series, some of whom don’t usually watch the programme.

Replying to Hamza, user @RuairidhRoss commented: “I don’t normally watch Strictly but will to see you in action Hamza.

“I’m hoping there will be a chance for you to wear a kilt as well. MacDonald tartan for you Ardnamurchan folks I believe though I’m of the view that you just wear whichever tartan you think you suit.” (sic)

Replying to the keen fan, Hazma, who was born in Sudan but moved to Scotland when he was young, replied that if he found the “dance that suits” he would love to adorn his kilt.

He replied: “And I got my tartan all ready to go. It’s called midnight shadow.”

As well as having hosted animal programmes such as Animal Park or Countryfile, Hamza is also well known to a younger audience or parents, as he appears as Ranger Hamza from the CBeebies show Let’s Go For A Walk.

Most recently the star also fronted a Channel 4 documentary titled Scotland: Escape to the Wilderness.

In an interview on BBC Radio Scotland shortly after it was revealed he was to be the 11th celebrity on this year’s series, which marks 20 years of the show, Hamza said: “I’m sure all of the contestants for Strictly this year got a phone call saying that they are going to be on Strictly, whereas for me, I’m the odd one out.

“I got a satellite text message notification from my agent saying in capital letters ‘you are on Strictly woop, woop!’

“For me I was over the moon. I could only celebrate by myself because I couldn’t tell anybody. So it was me and the wildlife just raving it up really! It’s been an amazing, amazing experience so far and I’m sure being on the show is going to be even better.”

Hamza joins the other announced stars competing on the show including Will Mellor and Kym Marsh, who were the first contestants confirmed for the series. Also taking part in the series are Richie Anderson, Kaye Adams, Jayde Adams, Ellie Simmonds, Molly Rainford, Fleur East and Ellie Taylor.
