Dexys Midnight Runners’ Kevin Rowland looked strikingly different as he performed Come On Eileen in an energetic performance.

The singer, 69, appeared on Friday’s This Morning to put on a special performance of the popular 1982 track to celebrate 40 years since its release.

Rowland, who recently performed the song in Birmingham’s Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony, looked worlds away from his 80s heyday as he sported a dapper pink suit, made up of wide leg trousers, a waistcoat and a blazer with a belted waist.

Exciting: To mark four decades since dancefloor classic Come On Eileen was released in 1982, Dexys are also re-releasing their album Too Rye Ay

Kevin styled his dark locks in a slicked back style as he put on an energetic performance, dancing around the stage and cheering.

Speaking to hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, Kevin admitted he used to be disappointed when fans only knew their smash hit Come On Eileen.

‘When people would say they listen to Dexys and then said ‘Too Rye Ay’, a little bit of me goes – I mean, there’s worse things,’ he said.

To mark four decades since dancefloor classic Come On Eileen was released in 1982, Dexys are also re-releasing their album Too Rye Ay.

The band rebranded as Dexys when they resurfaced in 2012 and released their fourth studio album, One Day I’m Going To Soar.

Dexys have enjoyed touring since reuniting in recent years and in 2016, they released another album – Let The Record Show: Dexys Do Irish And Country Soul.

In the 80s, Kevin was the leader and driving force of Dexys and the folk band went on to sell millions of records.

In 1982, they released their very popular anthem Come On Eileen and in 1985 came their third album Don’t Stand Me Down, which was reviewed poorly and didn’t sell well at the time.

The first incarnation of the band split in 1986 and despite a slew of line-up changes since, Kevin has reformed the group on several occasions over the years.
