Dominic West Says He Hasn't Spoken to Prince Harry in "Years" Despite Previous Friendship
After months of waiting (and a million stories about the royals spiraling), The Crown’s fifth and perhaps most controversial season has ARRIVED! And there’s a whole shiny new cast for everyone to obsess over, including Dominic West who’s stepped into the role of Prince Charles.
And fun (somewhat awkward) fact that you might not be aware of? Dominic and Prince Harry are actually old friends who go way back. But according to the actor, he hasn’t spoken to Harry in years and most definitely didn’t reach out about taking on the role of Prince Charles.
“I didn’t think it was appropriate to call him up and ask him for tips,” he told Entertainment Tonight during The Crown’s premiere in London. “I haven’t spoken to him for many years. We did walk to the South Pole together with a lot of wounded soldiers, so I got to know him pretty well.”
One person Dominic did inform, however? Prince Charles. Or, at least the office of his charitable organization the Prince’s Trust.
“I just thought I would inform the Prince’s Trust that I was playing the part,” he explained to ET. “And I felt they had a right to know that. So, that’s as far as it went.”
TBD on if the royals will be watching this season of The Crown, but they’ve definitely watch the show in the past. Prince Harry actually confirmed as much during his Oprah interview, saying “I’ve watched some of it.” He also told James Corden that the show doesn’t “pretend to be news. It’s fiction. But it’s loosely based on the truth.”
