EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: The Who star Kenny Jones’ Hurtwood Park Polo Club beloved by royals including Prince William and Prince Harry could be yours for £5 million

Princes William and Harry are among those to have played at Hurtwood Park Polo Club, which was the pride and joy of rock star Kenney Jones.

But now the former Small Faces, Faces and The Who drummer, 74, has put it on the market for £5 million — seven years after ambitious planning proposals for the site were rejected.

Set in 180 acres of Surrey countryside and including a beamed clubhouse barn, four polo fields and stables, Hurtwood Park has been operating as a polo estate for more than 25 years. It was first created after the musician moved to Ewhurst in the 1980s.

Hurtwood Park went into receivership in 2013, but Jones promised at the time that he would ‘not allow his club to slip out of his control’.

Plans for ‘a centre of national polo and equestrian excellence’, a 74-bedroom hotel and 14 homes on the land at the polo club were rejected by Waverley Borough Council two years later.

It had faced serious opposition from Ewhurst residents with 125 posters explaining the negatives of the proposals put up around the village. At the time a spokesman for the applicant said that if the plans didn’t go through the land would have to be sold, as the polo club would no longer be viable.

‘He’s had King Charles play there and Prince William and Prince Harry,’ a source says. ‘Princess Diana would go there when Charles played and Prince Albert of Monaco has also been there as a guest. It’s a tough time now for sponsors because the royals don’t play polo much so the sport has been struggling.’

The online advertisement, by estate agent Clarke Gammon, describes Hurtwood Park Polo Club as having ‘immense potential’ and ‘long-term planning opportunities’.

While the land is ‘currently consented as polo/equestrian and commercial entertaining’ it also notes that ‘the barn would make a beautiful house’.

The barn, which is currently used for parties, weddings and other social events, has a large vaulted social area, a bar, terrace and commercial kitchen.

The Karma Chameleon singer, 61, put his six-bedroom, Gothic mansion, overlooking Hampstead Heath in North London, on the market in September. I can reveal he’s now withdrawn it from sale and has found a tenant instead. Similar-size properties in the area are let for up to £15,000 a week.

‘George just couldn’t bear to part with it permanently, so it made perfect sense to rent it out,’ a friend tells me. A spokesman for his estate agent, Aston Chase, declines to comment.

Met King Chas at the pub

‘He was later told by his boss that the King found it really funny and it was the first time he’d been called ‘King’. In future, he should call him, ‘Your Majesty’.’

Love Actually star Bill Nighy is tipped to receive his first Oscar nomination for his performance in the 1950s drama Living, but his doctor has told him he’ll be dead in 13 years.

Promoting the film in the U.S., an interviewer for National Public Radio speculated with Nighy that the 73-year-old ‘could be with us for another 25 years’.

Nighy replied: ‘My doctor says 86 currently. The numbers are 86 . . . I was a bit surprised. Apparently, that’s what they do now.’

Queen guitarist Brian May has wasted no time in using the new title bestowed upon him by King Charles in the New Year Honours list. Thanking fans for the messages he’s received following the news that he’d been made a Knight Bachelor for services to music and charity, the 75-year-old posted a video message online.
