Michelle Hardwick has recounted her ordeal after her safety was compromised by a homophobic troll on the internet. The Emmerdale star and her partner, producer Kate Brooks, who she shares a son with, were worried to the point where “police have had to be called”.

Back in May, Michelle highlighted her and Kate’s ordeal after being subjected to “horrific” trolling online over their relationship.

She told OK! Magazine: “We’ve had a bit of trolling over the last few years.

“And there have been certain times when police have had to be called because there have been death threats.

“When they’re mentioning your son’s name and you’re just going ‘Really? I’m just in a soap you know – we’re not doing any harm to anybody.”

Recently, the Vanessa Woodfield actress appeared to ramp up security measures in her home as she took to social media to thank the security company that had installed the equipment.

In view of her 125,000 Instagram followers, Michelle recommended the specialists to anyone in the area looking for a similar service.

She said: “Just wanted to say what fantastic service we have had from the very first phone call to the end result.

“Anyone local to the Leeds/Wakefield area who needs any security solutions then look no further than @msc.security.solutions.”

Clarifying she hadn’t been paid to promote the service, Michelle went on: “This was a fully paid for job, not a paid ad.

“I just wanted to post because they were fabulous.”

Michelle revealed she was gay nine years ago while she was with her previous partner, music teacher Rosie Nicoll.

The pair were married but eventually called off their marriage in 2017.

Michelle has previously exposed the vile messages she received on social media from trolls.

While challenging them to reveal their identity, the TV star said she had been called a “d**e” and a “l**bo brat” by one user.

She later took to Twitter to thank supporters voicing their disgust over the abuse.

Michelle penned: “Overwhelmed by all your beautiful supportive messages. I honestly don’t take it to heart, I just like to highlight it every so often.

“Thank you to every single person who took the time to message me whether I know you personally or not.

“I promise I’ll read them all”, she concluded.

The soap star has been married to Emmerdale’s producer Kate Brooks since 2019, with the couple sharing one son together.

Michelle made her debut as Vanessa Woodfield when she was hired by Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), an old friend from university, to work as a locum.
