Graham Norton reveals group of stars ‘blacklisted’ from his hit BBC talkshow

Graham Norton has let slip that there’s a group of stars he won’t ever have back on his BBC1 talk show.

The 59 year old presenter explained that it tends to be “mature, middling” celebs who don’t make the cut, adding that he's more forgiving of younger celebs.

Graham said: “If you’re a young star – a comedian, actor or singer – I’d forgive them for being bad the first time around and have them back on, because it’s not the easiest thing in the world to be on a chat show and they deserve a second chance.”

Graham also said he can’t ban “big movie stars with a very successful film” and that they would be asked to make a return to the red sofa “regardless”.

He continued to explain to the Mail that, whilst the blacklist "definitely exists", his “lips are sealed as to who they are!”

The presenter has been hosting his eponymous show since 2007, which began its’ thirtieth series on 30 September 2022, and also acts as the BBC’s Eurovision commentator.

In that time, Graham’s welcomed hundreds of people onto his famous sofa – but has previously revealed that he has a few favourites – and has called one guest the "worst ever".

In 2019, he said that business tycoon Alan Sugar was at the top of his list of standout guests, describing him as someone who doesn’t care about “being liked”.

He said: “I think with most people in this industry, the ‘wanting to be liked’ gene is quite strong in them, so they’ll just fake it. Occasionally, I’ll get a guest that doesn’t have that gene.

"They don’t care, but it’s so unusual it takes your breath away. Oh wow, you really don’t care, and I quite like it, like Lord Alan Sugar. I really like him, he’s funny and great.”

Although we may never find out which “middling” stars failed to impress Graham, he revealed in October 2022 that his least favourite guest of all time was disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein.

Weinstein, who is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence, appeared on the show in 2015, just two years before dozens of women came forward to accuse him of serious sexual crimes.

Graham described Weinstein’s booking as “chilling in retrospect”.
