Harry and Meghan’s ‘institutional gaslighting’ claim rubbished by Queen’s private secretary

The trailer for the last three episodes of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell Netflix documentary sees the couple claim that were the victims of "institutional gaslighting."

In the teaser, Meghan says that she was "being fed to the wolves" and that the couple's security was being pulled, while "everyone in the world" knew where they were.

In another clip, which does not explain to whom it refers, Harry says: “They were happy to lie to protect my brother. They were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.”

And while filming a video on a plane, the Duke of Sussex says: "We are on a freedom flight", before he talks about "institutional gaslighting."

However, Dickie Arbiter, who was the late Queen Elizabeth's private secretary from 1988 until 2000, has rubbished the couple's claims.

He told The Sun: "There are more holes in their story than a colander. It is absolutely outrageous to be talking about institutional gaslighting.

"And their security was taken away because taxpayers won't pay for them to live in America. There are so many mixed messages. I think they have lost direction and no one will believe a word they say."

It comes as former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said that the docu-series will likely have left the royal family feeling "despairing, dismayed and disappointed."

Speaking to OK! Jennie said: "The three words that come to mind when I consider how the Royal Family must be feeling during the run up to the release of the next three episodes are despairing, dismayed and disappointed.

“They’ll be hurt and pained. Charles must be distraught that this is going on and on.”

Discussing the accusations of institutional gaslighting, she continues: "We’ve got sources from the palace denying having done any harm to Harry and Meghan – we can’t determine who is telling the truth.

“So, I think the onus has to be on Harry and Meghan who are making the allegations to stand them up and stop throwing out general slurs against their family.

“It’s getting really unpleasant and dirty. Harry talked about it being a ‘dirty game’, well this is dirty.

“We’ve seen so much of the Royal Family’s dirty laundry aired in public and this is a whole lot more. Can’t they sort this out privately?”

Royal biographer Tom Bower meanwhile, has claimed that Harry’s apparent dig at brother William would have left his late mother Princess Diana "appalled at his disloyalty".
