Helen Skelton confirmed as Laura Whitmore’s replacement on BBC Radio 5 Live

Countryfile host, Helen Skelton, will be taking to the airwaves in place of Laura Whitmore on BBC Radio 5 Live, starting next month.

It was recently revealed Laura had made the decision to leave her Sunday morning slot after four years, having presented on the network since 2018.

It was reported the move has come following her success on Love Island, which she’s been presenting ever since the first winter series aired in 2020.

However, the network has now shared the news of her replacement, with Helen set to take over from the middle of August.

In a tweet shared on Friday afternoon, BBC Radio 5 Live wrote: ‘We’ve got some exciting news… @HelenSkelton will present a new-look Sunday morning programme on BBC Radio 5 Live.

‘The new show, from 10am to midday, launches on August 14th. Welcome Helen.’

Heidi Dawson, controller of BBC Radio 5 Live, confirmed the news, saying, via The Sun,: ‘Laura has made the difficult decision to leave after a brilliant four years.

‘We’d like to thank her for the energy, insight and humour she has brought to this programme and look forward to working with her again in the near future.’

Helen has previously hosted an afternoon show on the station and has been seen on screens in recent weeks in Channel 5’s Live: Summer on the Farm.

The former Blue Peter presenter made a return to TV in May this year, after her split from husband Richie Myler, to present coverage of Channel 4’s Rugby League.

Taking to Instagram back in April, Helen confirmed her split with Richie after nine years of marriage, writing: ‘Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple.

‘He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children.’

The pair were married for eight years and share three children; Ernie, six, Louis, four, and a baby daughter Elsie Kate who was born in December.
