‘I wish I never introduced Harry to Meghan – it’s all my fault!’ says ex friend
TV personality Lizzie Cundy has weighed in on the fresh drama surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as their upcoming explosive Netflix documentary is set to air tomorrow, 8 December.
The couple have been the centre of controversy for several years following their departure as senior members of The Firm and their subsequent move to the US in a bid to lead a more private life.
But since then, they've given several interviews, including one with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, where they've spoken out on how they felt they were treated by the Royal Family. Harry, 38, is also coming out with his own book, titled Spare, which is said to be making his family nervous.
Now, 54 year old Lizzie has weighed in on all the drama in an exclusive interview with OK! magazine at the TRIC Christmas Lunch.
"I’m going to be watching the Netflix documentary, obviously! As the whole world will be," she shared before expressing how "appalled" she is by it.
Lizzie, who previously slammed the couple over their "disrespectful" Oprah interview, then accused the couple of "trying to bring down the monarchy," as she continued: "This could have been screened when the Queen was alive and I feel they’re just trying to ruin her 70 years of amazing work.
"I feel like they’ve got to get their own identity – stop whinging, stop moaning."
The star went on to reference several reports around Meghan, 41, and Harry's Netflix documentary trailer, in which they tried to depict how the paparazzi hounded them.
However, in one instance, it appears they used footage of members of the press awaiting not them but Katie Price, 44, arriving outside Crawley Magistrates Court in December 2021.
She also spoke of another report claiming a picture they used in the teaser is actually a shot of photographers at the Harry Potter premiere years before the royal couple had even met. In addition, she recalled how the couple reportedly took a photographer into Buckingham Palace without the Queen's permission.
Lizzie said: "One of the images used is from Katie Price at court and also Harry Potter. Also, they shouldn’t have got a photographer in Buckingham Palace."
"It’s a joke," she continued, before sharing: "They should be ashamed of themselves."
Expressing her regrets over the part she played in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's romance story, Lizzie added: "I wish I never introduced Harry [to her.] It’s all my fault! I’m sorry Camilla. I’m sorry everyone!"
Lizzie first met Meghan back in 2013 at a pre-dinner for a charity and the pair "got on like a house on fire instantly". They decided to meet again, where the Duchess told her she'd "love an English boyfriend".
TV personality Lizzie initially tried to set Meghan up with her pal Ashley Cole, but he "wasn't so keen" on the match.
Several years later, Meghan and Harry met through Lizzie and began dating. At the time, Lizzie told Grazia: "I texted her to say how amazing it was and she did reply.
"But once the ring was on the finger, I soon realised she was off Twitter and that her number wasn’t working. And that was it – I’m afraid both Piers Morgan and I got ghosted."
Insisting she wasn't upset by the end of their friendship, Lizzie said it's a "different life" to go from being a celebrity into royal life.
But now, it appears Lizzie has had a change of heart around Meghan and Harry – slating them over their decisions since their exit from the family.
The first three parts of the couple's documentary, titled Harry & Meghan, is set to be released on 8 December, while the second volume, also consisting on three parts, will air on 15 December.
