Jordan Banjo stars in Food Waste Action Week promo

Diversity’s Jordan Banjo, 30, spoke about ITV’s controversial decision to cast Matt Hancock on last year’s series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, where he ended up placing third.

The KISS radio presenter, who first got his start on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, discussed his time on the show back in 2016 ahead of returning for the All Stars series this year.

Jordan, who spoke to Express.co.uk as part of a wider interview about Food Waste Action Week last month, gave his thoughts on Matt’s participation in the ITV reality show.

“Do you know what? I think the funny part is everybody complained when they heard about it, but when he was actually on there everybody watched, right?” he mused.

“You couldn’t help but watch. You wanted to either see how he actually was, how he did in challenges or you wanted him to do a challenge… Whatever it was.

“So I suppose it was very smart from ITV because, whether you love him or hate him, everybody tuned in to watch him, right?” he reiterated.

I’m A Celeb: All Stars! will be coming to our screens in just a few weeks, with the likes of former contestants such as Jordan, Helen Flanagan and Amir Khan all taking part once more.

Jordan will also be reunited with former campmate Carol Vorderman, whom he described as a “good friend”, in the South Africa-based series presented by Ant & Dec.

Asked who he still keeps in touch with from his series, Jordan confirmed he “especially” liked to keep up with Carol, who also hosts the Pride of Britain Awards with his brother Ashley Banjo.

“I do feel sometimes like he’s trying to nick my friend,” he joked. “Like, ‘Hang on mate, you need to back off a little bit, Carol’s my friend!’

“But yeah I speak to Carol, Adam Thomas, Joel Dommett, even Scarlette Moffatt every now and then. I keep in touch – we’re all in this work industry where you might bump into people at certain events and stuff like that.

“You’ll keep in touch with some more than others, but everyone’s honestly really cool. It’s really nice,” he added.

Jordan has teamed up with Love Food Hate Waste to encourage families around the UK to waste less time and money by freezing leftovers and preparing meals that can be enjoyed more than once.

“We’re wasting two and half days cooking food that just gets wasted and not eaten, and when I heard that I just thought that is a HUGE amount of time,” he explained, before later adding of the campaign: “You’re saving time and money – so it’s sort of a win-win!”
