I'm A Celebrity: Mike Tindall is elected as the second camp leader

I’m A Celebrity: Mike Tindall is elected as the second camp leader… after previously missing out on the role in place of Matt Hancock

Mike Tindall was elected at the second camp leader as Matt Hancock stepped down from his role on Friday’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! episode.

The former rugby player, 44, was elected by his fellow celebrities after they voted for who they wanted to replace Matt, also 44, as their leader.

The news came after Mike was previously beaten to the role of leader by the former health secretary, after they battled it out in a task to win the title.

Leader: Mike Tindall was elected at the second camp leader as Matt Hancock stepped down from his role on Friday’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! episode

Matt read out a laminate about the campmates voting for their new camp leader, announcing: ‘The celebrity with the most votes will become the new leader. The first role of the new leader is to choose a deputy immediately. I shall now count the votes!’

Boy George said in the Bush Telegraph: ‘Please don’t let it be me. I don’t want responsibility. I spent the last 61 years avoiding it!’

But George was spared from the role as Matt announced: ‘The winner of the leadership is – Mike!’

Mike immediately took his seat in the comfy red leader’s chair as Matt gave up the role, before he announced he wanted Sue Cleaver to serve as his deputy.

‘She’s always been at my side, it’s going to be Sue,’ he gushed.

Dethroned! Matt read out a laminate about the campmates voting for their new camp leader, announcing: ‘The celebrity with the most votes will become the new leader – which ended up as Mike

Camp leaders are given the luxury of handing out jobs to their fellow campmates and are not allowed to help in any day-to-day tasks, such as cooking or cleaning.

Speaking of the news, Owen in Bush Telegraph said: ‘It’s going to be a shambles without him doing everything!’

Mike was quick to distribute chores to the campmates, with none of the stars being allowed to do the same job as before.

He said: ‘What we’ve tried to do is keep it as close to what we think people want to do.’

Team: Mike then revealed that he wanted Sue Cleaver to serve as his deputy.

Charlene White and Jill Scott were nominated as camp chefs, while Seann Walsh and Scarlette Douglas took on the washing up duties.

Meanwhile, Owen Warner and Babatúndé Aleshe were given camp water collection while Matt was demoted from leader to dunny duties.

Boy George was also put on camp maintenance alongside Chris Moyles.

It comes after Matt was crowned as the first camp leader after winning a leadership contest again, before having to step down from the role in place of Mike.

The former Health Secretary, 44, faced Mike Tindall in the leadership struggle, who moaned that he would be ‘in so much s**t’ for losing to the MP.

One person who made it clear they won’t be following any orders was Boy George, who insisted: ‘Ultimately, neither of them will have any power over me. If I don’t want to do something I won’t do it.’

And during Matt’s run of power, Mike was still hungry for the throne as he spoke about starting a ‘revolution’ against their leader with Sue and Boy George.

The trio were amongst many of the campmates and viewers who were unhappy to see Matt participating in the show – with the MP’s appearance tainted by his Covid-19 related scandals.

Boy George even threatened to walk out of the show following Matt’s arrival, while other campmates such as Charlene and Chris used the opportunity to probe him on politics and his behaviour.
